The arm has healed…
So I hope to start posting more regularly!
So I hope to start posting more regularly!
…because I recently fractured my right arm. Typing is impossible. I should be back up to speed when the cast is removed in couple weeks.

Last week, there was suddenly so much spam (literally thousands of dummy messages) that the server couldn’t handle it and the Camelia Street site was actually shut down. Unfortunately, the only way I can deal with the problem at present is to temporarily disable them.
Check them out here, or click on the forums tab at the top of the page. The forums are a place for you to share your thoughts and commentary with others. Please keep the content thoughtful and respectful.
*We’ve had problems with spam in the past, so we’ll see how it goes. In the meantime, you will be able to post without registering.
The editor is traveling thru foreign lands with minimal internet access…. things should be back to normal in few weeks when they return home!
As of today, the new site is officially up and running.
The main differences between the old and the new site:
1) We now have catagories, for easy retrival of specific topics
2) Google map / post cross referencing.
3) Forum
The Camelia Street Blog has come a long way since its official start this past August. It’s been great to see readership and the blog’s usability increase. Hopefully it will continue to do so!
The next step will be an attempt at presenting more original content, in whatever form the blog will allow. Currently, as you’ve probably noticed, most of the information contained herein is in the form of links to other sites and news articles. While putting all extant info related to West Berkeley in one place can be helpful, the blog is still lacking its own voice. That’s where you, the reader, can be of help. If there is a topic you’d like to initiate, elaborate upon, an idea or solution you’d like to present, or an opinion you’d like to share– please send it in. Topics can be as varied as the neighborhood itself–transportion, pollution, economics, traffic calming, tree planting, neighborhood events, crime, politics, local culture, history, industry, art….
Along with seeking more original content, we are also working on making the blog more interactive, possibly adding a bulletin board. Since this site is run on Blogger/Blogspot, flexibility is not its strong point. Nonetheless, if you have any other suggestions, please send them along.
Please send submissions, suggestions, etc. to:
cameliastreet@yahoo.com
ps-If you’ve emailed the cameliastreet address in the past few weeks and haven’t gotten a response, we apologize. We plan to catch up on any emails we recieved this coming week.
Don’t know when they started doing this, but the City of Berkeley’s Newscan webpage now cites individually run local blogs as news sources right alongside the Berkeley Daily Planet, Oakland Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, etc. The most recent example of this can be seen in the Oct. 5 2005 Newscan archive section, items #13–#15 below.
