Oh No, CLIF Bar Don’t Go!

CLIF Bar’s facility on Fifth Street is no longer big enough to house their one hundred million dollar a year business. Read the Oakland Tribune Article about it here.

It will be a sad day in west berkeley if this business goes…. maybe they should move to the soon to be for sale Flint Ink site on Fifth and Gilman…or the old urban ore site on Sixth….or…..has anyone got other ideas?

The Benefits of EIR’s (Environmental Impact Reports)

While many see EIR’s a just another bump in the road in the process of new development, when used correctly, they prevent costly mistakes for the community and developers. Click here for Gale Garcia’s Commentary on EIR’s in today’s Berkeley Daily Planet.

A Call for Submissions: Commentary, Letters, Movies, Art . . .

The Camelia Street Blog has come a long way since its official start this past August. It’s been great to see readership and the blog’s usability increase. Hopefully it will continue to do so!

The next step will be an attempt at presenting more original content, in whatever form the blog will allow. Currently, as you’ve probably noticed, most of the information contained herein is in the form of links to other sites and news articles. While putting all extant info related to West Berkeley in one place can be helpful, the blog is still lacking its own voice. That’s where you, the reader, can be of help. If there is a topic you’d like to initiate, elaborate upon, an idea or solution you’d like to present, or an opinion you’d like to share– please send it in. Topics can be as varied as the neighborhood itself–transportion, pollution, economics, traffic calming, tree planting, neighborhood events, crime, politics, local culture, history, industry, art….

Along with seeking more original content, we are also working on making the blog more interactive, possibly adding a bulletin board. Since this site is run on Blogger/Blogspot, flexibility is not its strong point. Nonetheless, if you have any other suggestions, please send them along.

Please send submissions, suggestions, etc. to:

cameliastreet@yahoo.com

ps-If you’ve emailed the cameliastreet address in the past few weeks and haven’t gotten a response, we apologize. We plan to catch up on any emails we recieved this coming week.

A New Stop Sign on Frontage Road???

Well, maybe not any more…but for a few days last month there was a new one on Frontage Road where it crosses Cedar Street. It was not put there by the city but more likely by a disgruntled neighbor who wanted people to slow down. Talk about taking matters into your own hands. Apparently people are STILL stopping there, even though the sign has been removed.
